Outside broadcasts

At PY Media we run Outside Broadcasts such as live music, community meetings and other community events. PY Media seeks to engage the community through these events to strengthen relations and attract future broadcasters, radio producers and media workers in general.
PY Media has a long history of organising events for people of the APY Lands that bring people together for whole of community fun.

Mimili 2015
Mimili Outside Broadcast was a an event put on to celebrate the good work happening in Mimili by the various organisations and employers. We had a range of people come on the radio and by all accounts it was a great day.

30th Anniversary of Uluru and Kata Tjuta Handback Ceremony O/B
PY Media attended the very significant anniversary of Uluru and Kata Tjuta to traditional owners on the 24th, 25th and 26th of October and covered the events with a live broadcast back to the APY Lands and filmed many of the goings on.
Our Outside Broadcast Team was prepared to go live back to the APY Lands using nothing more than an iPhone and iPad which is part of our innovative and cutting edge approach to bringing live events to the listeners of radio 5NPY.

Mobile reporting

At PY Media we have a team of community mobile reporters using cutting edge IOS device technology such as the iPhone 4s and the iPad Air. The IOS Tieline Report IT application coupled with the comprehensive editing application TwistedWave are unheralded in this area of indigenous media in Australia.
We are proud to be using this technology and taking it to new and extreme frontiers in what are our basic day to day operations. The ability of our reporters to connect us to their communities is supported by cutting edge Wi-fi ADSL infrastructure installed by PY Media in designated APY communities.
We provide in house inductions for our CMRs relating to interview methodology, audio content production for radio, creating narratives etc and pathways to Certificate III in media at BIITE.

Radio 5NPY takes every opportunity to interview the many visitors who come to the Lands for their work. It is essential that Anangu are edified as to the nature and purpose of the work of the politicians, bureaucrats and trades people who come here.
This interview about the Ngintaka (Perentie) exhibition in Adelaide in 2014 gives a fine account of the issues of politics and traditional culture that arose from the occasion.
In this interview Kunmanara Nyaningu sings and tells excerpts from the story of the Ngintaka. Kunmanara has now passed and his memory is a treasure of traditional knowledge.

Community service announcements
Radio 5NPY broadcasts CSAs several times an hour every day.
Community Service Announcements are usually pre-recorded but sometimes are produced, by order, in the PY Media recording studio. Many government and non-government agencies use radio broadcasting to send their message to the the communities. The Government uses CSAs to flag major policy initiatives and changes; police, health, education authority, road safety council, emergency services and electoral commission are among the bodies that use the 5NPY CSA service.
PY Media generates income from the fees it charges for the multiple broadcast of CSAs.

Information campaigns
Road Rules Campaign
The Road Rules Campaign translation project included 11 videos translated into Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara for the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (http://www.dpti.sa.gov.au).
As part of the project, 11 out of the 13 commonly misunderstood road rule refresher videos were translated and audio recorded by PY Media, Uwuwa in 2013-14.

Aboriginal Interpreter Service
The Northern Territory Aboriginal Interpreter Service (http://www.ais.nt.gov.au) began recruiting operations on the APY Lands in 2013-14. PY Media worker Jeremy Whiskey and Station Co-ordinator Tom Holder translated, recorded and broadcast this ad on the radio all in one day!
